Choosing an access method

Public AAC’s boards are operable four ways — the board itself never changes, so a person can move between methods (or mix them) without relearning anything. Choose in Setup → Access:

Method How it selects
Touch Tap a cell to select it.
Switch scanning The highlight steps through cells; press your switch to select.
Dwell Rest the pointer on a cell to select it.
Head / gaze Move your head to point (using the camera); rest on a cell to select.

The app annotates — but never disables — methods the detected hardware can’t currently drive: an external mouse, switch interface, or eye tracker may be attached at any time, and that judgment belongs to the person, not the software.

The Setup dialog with the Access section open: the Access method radios (Touch selected, Switch scanning, Dwell, Head / gaze) with their help text. Desktop, light theme.
Setup → Access: pick how the board is operated.

Each method has its own settings page: Touch · Switch scanning · Dwell · Head and eye gaze
